Coin Mate is free to try for 30 days, during which you can enjoy all its features, but you will be limited to 1000 input records. Downloading and installing the software is not difficult and it does not take long, even on older machines. You can use Coin Mate on Windows XP or any later edition, without sacrificing too much disk space, RAM or processing power.

The user interface has a familiar design and it should not take long to get used to its controls. Although there are many buttons and links to click on, you won't have to perform any complex operations or navigate through a thick layer of menus just to make a subtle specification. When launched, the program will display a few overall details about your collection on a home screen, but you can jump to an in-depth view of your collection or to a statistics page, with a single click.

While browsing through your collection, you can switch to different view modes, like in Windows Explorer. A series of options, located on a ribbon menu can be used to add new entries, sort or filter the collection, print it and much more. New entries can be created automatically or manually. If you decide to create a coin entry manually, you will have to fill in a series of input fields, on a separate window. You can specify numerous details about a coin, including its name, country, series, year of issue, as well as its weight, composition and so on and you can filter your collection by the same characteristics. It is also possible to import pictures from local folders or directly from a digital camera.

Adding new coins automatically is much faster. All you have to do is select a country, a year of issue and one of many keywords, on a small window. When you are done, you may click a button and the program will search for coins that match your criteria, on the Internet. The found coins are displayed on a different window and you can add them to your database, along with pictures and details.

On the statistics page you can view how many coins you have from a certain country, series, year and so on. The program places a large number of sorting criteria at your disposal. The statistics themselves can be viewed in tables, graphs, diagrams or pie charts.
